Jupiter Ascending is an Action, Adventure, Sci-fi starring Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth, and Tuppence Middleton.

A young woman named Jupiter who scrubs toilets for a living, finds out that she is the genetic reincarnation of an alien queen. Unfortunately for her, her royal family isn’t that friendly.

Welcome to an intergalactic universe… Where men wear makeup? Jupiter Ascending has the feel of one of those crazy dreams one might have with senseless things all mashed up in one.

This made it feel like there was too much going on. One might struggle to keep up and understand exactly what’s happening in the beginning.

Early on, the dramatic music will force you to take this movie seriously; which even though it was intended to, doesn’t really flatter the setting. It comes off as more annoying than complimentary.

Don’t be fooled by familiar faces. The lead roles filled by Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum doesn’t mean it’s going to be good. It was hard not to feel a bit disappointed that Channing Tatum took part in this movie.

Even though I think Mila Kunis is a fair actress, I think this movie was completely wrong for her. I just couldn’t take her or the character she portrayed seriously. It seemed like she found the role as difficult to portray as I found it to believe. All in all, it was hard to take the whole movie seriously, because the characters were one dimensional and unbelievable. Then of course those plot holes had to rear it’s ugly heads.

Along with plot holes and bad pacing. Some moments seemed very staged. When watching a movie, you want to be engulfed in it. You don’t want to sit there thinking about the set and how many times you think an actor/actress had to re-do or practice a line.

However, all is not lost. The cinematography, and visual effects were good. Even though the plot was a bit strange, it had potential. If you enjoy visuals more than anything else, you can give this movie a shot, as some people really loved this movie because of that. Just don’t start watching it with high expectations. I’ll give this movie a generous 4.9.
