Cake is a 102 minute drama starring Jennifer Aniston, Anna Kendrick, Sam Worthington and Felicity Huffman.

Jennifer plays a woman named Claire Bennett suffering from chronic pain who is captivated by the suicide of a woman in her support group (Anna Kendrick), causing hallucinations about her which makes her address her own past and suicidal feelings.

This movie is quite the slow burner, the first part of the movie is very cryptic and doesn’t reveal the essential backbone of the story quite yet. It sort of strings you along and if you’re curious enough you’ll push through and be rewarded.

I’ve never seen Jennifer Aniston look this bad in a movie before, which is a good thing because it really adds to her character and helps her sell the role. This is the first serious movie I’ve seen her in and it was nice to see that her talent stretches beyond a romantic comedy.

Although the storyline is not the most original and lacks some character development here and there, it makes up for it with an interesting cast and by making you feel like you know what the main character, Claire Bennett went through in the end.

I would recommend this movie for anyone who’s had to deal with loss and/or depression. What’s your take on the movie? Have you seen it? Do you want to see it?
